PhD student opening

The Bromfield laboratory is looking for a new PhD student to work on an NIH funded project within the Department of Animal Sciences at the University of Florida.

The project entitled “Uterine infection and infertility: how microbial infection of the reproductive tract causes ovarian dysfunction” utilizes a unique experimentally induced model system of uterine infection in the dairy cow to determine the ovarian impacts of disease leading to post infection infertility.

A large proportion of dairy cows suffer uterine infection in the postpartum period which is resolved before the end of the voluntary waiting period; however, many of these animals present with negative reproductive consequences at the time of breeding. We have a specific interest in the mechanisms by which uterine infection impacts ovarian function, follicle growth and quality of subsequent oocytes.

We are looking for a potential graduate student to participate in the research program of this currently funded project. Applicants should have completed a Masters program and have experience in both molecular techniques and large animal handling related to reproductive biology. The successful applicant would be required to work in the large animal model in addition to using in vitro cell culture systems and molecular techniques. Experience with trans-vaginal ultrasound guided oocyte pick up would be a benefit. Information on the Animal Molecular and Cell Biology graduate program can be found here. Additional information regarding the Department of Animals Science’s faculty and resources can be found here.

Applicant should send a letter of application and CV to jbromfield@ufl.edu
